Synthetic fragrances are made from petrochemicals and attempt to duplicate the smell of a specific plant or flower. Synthetic fragrances also include benzene derivatives, aldehydes and many other toxins and synthesizers that are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders and allergic reactions. We do not use synthetic fragrances in any of our products, we only use natural essential oils which are obtained through a highly labour –intensive process which extracts the vital essence of aromatic plants from the flowers, fruits, sap, seeds or skin of the plant as well as the bark, leaves, roots or resins or wood of certain trees.

Artificial Colours are mostly derived from coal tar and can be carcinogenic, allergy inducing and toxic. We do not use any artificial colours in our products. The colour in our products is obtained from the natural essential oils. For example sweet orange essential oil turns our Orange Spice products a beautiful orange colour.

SLS (sodium laureth sulphate) and SLES (sodium lauryl ether sulphate) are harsh caustic detergents used for removing grease and are commonly found in concrete floor cleaners, engine degreasers, car wash detergents. Despite their harshness, they are commonly included in personal care products and can cause damage to the outer layer of the skin, causing dryness, roughness, scaliness, fissuring, loss of flexibility and reduction of the barrier functions of normal healthy skin. We do not use SLS or SLES in any of our products.

Parabens are a class of chemicals widely used as preservatives. Common parabens include methylparaben (E218), ethylparaben (E214), propylparaben 
(E216) and butylparaben.  Parabens have been found to cause premature ageing of the skin and hormonal abnormalities and have even been linked to cancer, particularly breast cancer in women. We do not use parabens in any of our products.
Petroleum is crude oil, a fossil fuel produced deep in the earth. Mineral oil is a refined synthetic petroleum based oil widely used in cosmetics. It creates a barrier on the skin and interferes with the skin’s normal functions. We do not use petroleum in any of our products.

Lanolin is a yellow waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals. Although a naturally occurring product, we do not use this or any other animal derived ingredients in any of our products. We are very proud to offer a vegan friendly range of toiletry products.
Palm Oil is an edible plant oil derived from the fruits of palm trees. Although a natural product we do not use it in any of our products due to the high demand for palm oil for use in food that causes substantial and often irreversible damage to the natural environment.

Touch of Nature products do not contain any of the above harsh ingredients.
